The Upcoming Punisher Special Finally Gets an Official Title
Not so long ago, it seemed like Jon Bernthal’s time as the Punisher had come to an end.
When Marvel Studios first unveiled plans to revive the Daredevil franchise with Daredevil: Born Again, Kevin Feige and his team made it clear they wanted to differentiate the MCU’s version of the Man Without Fear from the grittier Netflix iteration.

As part of that strategy, the new series was expected to feature a lighter tone and scale back the violence.

Fortunately for fans, the 2023 Hollywood strikes gave Marvel an unexpected opportunity to reassess. After reviewing the completed episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, Feige reportedly determined that the show wasn’t coming together as envisioned.
The Overhaul
Marvel ultimately decided to overhaul the series, reconnect it to the original Netflix Daredevil, and lean into a TV-MA rating. Just like that, the door swung open for Bernthal’s return.

In the end, Bernthal not only reprised his role as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again, but Marvel also announced that a standalone Punisher special was officially in development.
