It Appears That Marvel’s ‘Nova’ Series Is Not Dead After All
For years now, Marvel fans have waited with bated breath to see if the long-promised Nova series would finally materialize.
The project was initially teased in 2018, when Kevin Feige stated that the character had “immediate potential.”

It wasn’t until 2022, however, that Nova began to gain momentum.
At that time, reports emerged that Marvel was developing a Nova series, with Sabir Pirzada set to write it.
Marvel’s Shift in Strategy
The next couple of years, however, proved to be a time of change at Marvel Television. Following the disastrous reception to Secret Invasion, the studio decided to overhaul how it produced streaming series.

This shift in strategy led many to assume that Nova had been scrapped.

That, however, turned out not to be the case.
New Hope
In 2024, Kevin Feige revealed that Nova was still in development and that the series would star Richard Rider, the most iconic version of the character.

The Marvel Studios president cautioned, however, that the series was still “three to four years out.”
Then, in December 2024, Deadline reported that Ed Bernero had joined the project as writer and showrunner.

While it seemed that Nova would finally come to fruition after all, fans received disappointing news last year when Deadline reported that Marvel was “pausing” Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. until after Avengers: Secret Wars.
Since then, updates on Nova have been scarce.

Now, however, we finally have some movement.
Michael Waldron Is Now Attatched to ‘Nova’
The Writers Guild of America directory now lists Michael Waldron as attached to Nova, with the series appearing under the 2026–2027 season.

Waldron, of course, is one of the MCU’s key creative architects, having previously written Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and serving as a writer on Avengers: Doomsday.
He also created Loki.

It should be noted that Waldron has previously been attached to Nova and has stated that he wants his Chad Powers co-creator Glen Powell to play the titular hero.
While it remains to be seen whether Nova will actually come to fruition, fans finally have reason for optimism.

Perhaps we’ll get a more definitive update soon.
