Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Earns an Emmy Nomination For ‘Wonder Man’
After a five-year hiatus, Marvel Studios is back on the Emmy radar.
The Television Academy announced its 2026 Emmy nominees yesterday, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II scored a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in Wonder Man.

Abdul-Mateen II’s nomination is just the latest in a series of wins for Wonder Man.
‘Wonder Man’ Was a Surprise Hit
Debuting last year on Disney+, the series introduced audiences to Simon Williams, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, a struggling actor who secretly has superpowers.

Over the course of the first season, Williams forms an unlikely friendship with Trevor Slattery, portrayed by Ben Kingsley, who reprises his role from Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
“Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film Wonder Man,” the series synopsis reads.

“These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.”
Telling a very different story than most of its MCU brethren, Wonder Man was lauded by critics and fans alike.

The series was subsequently renewed for a second season.
An Important Nomination
Abdul-Mateen II will now face off against a who’s who of comedic actors, including Steve Carell (Rooster), Matthew Rhys (Widow’s Bay), Jason Segel (Shrinking), and, of course, Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building).

While it remains to be seen whether Abdul-Mateen II can pull off the upset and take home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy, the nomination is significant for Marvel in and of itself.

The last time an MCU series earned a major Emmy acting nomination was in 2021, when WandaVision received eight nominations.
Clearly, both Abdul-Mateen and Marvle have reason to celebrate.
