Feige: Jessica Jones & Luke Cage Revivals Possible
According to an interview with Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige conducted by Deadline, there are no current plans for a Jessica Jones or Luke Cage revival. However, excitingly, it’s not outside the realm of possibility!
And this make sense to me, Feige has previously said that he will “look at anything that’s happened before as inspiration for the future of Marvel [Studios].” He believes that by bringing the comic book formula to Hollywood, Marvel Studios and Disney will continue to succeed, saying “that’s the way that comics have worked for many years.”
Will the Defenders Appear in the MCU?
When the Deadline interviewer asked if there was any possibility that Luke Cage or Jessica Jones – shows that originally appeared as part of the Netflix Defenders programming – would be revived, Feige said “never say never.”
While Marvel Studios will certainly never say never, Feige also emphasized that the MCU is currently quite occupied thanks to the programming it announced at San Diego Comic Con 2019.
Currently, the Disney+ streaming service has at least ten Marvel shows planned in the next few years, including upcoming series like Hawkeye and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as a full roster of future movies, like Thor: Love and Thunder.
“Well, certainly you’ve seen what we announced at Comic-Con a year and half ago and on Disney Investor Day a few weeks ago, so that’s our focus,” Feige told Deadline. “But I’ve been at Marvel long enough to never say never about anything.”
Will Jessica Jones Return on Disney+?
The remark adds fuel to the fire for the rumor that Krysten Ritter, who played Jessica Jones for three seasons of an eponymous Netflix series and one season of the crossover Defenders, may reprise the role in the upcoming Disney+ half-hour MCU legal comedy, She-Hulk. Could Jones be serving as a private investigator on one of Shulkie’s cases?
The eponymous star of Luke Cage was portrayed by Mike Coulter. The Netflix Defenders crew also included Danny Rand, A.K.A. Iron Fist, played by Finn Jones, and Matt Murdock, A.K.A. Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox. Is it possible the rest of the Defenders will return to fight crime on the streets of Hell’s Kitchen?
Maybe! It’s possible that Cox may be reprising the role of Murdock in the MCU, as well. In a recent interview with Collider, Feige was pressed about the possibility of the actors return as the Man Without Fear, but would only respond with, “We’ll see.”
