Avengers Assemble in Australia: Marvel Studios Heads to Oz
According to an extremely enthusiastic report in The Daily Mail Australia, down under is going to get pretty Marvelous over the course of the next half-decade! The article states that Marvel Studios is moving their headquarters from Atlanta, Georgia in the United States to Sydney, Australia in order to circumvent production issues that have arisen as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The news outlet, after reporting that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings would save the Australian movie industry, hopes that Marvel Studios continued presence in Australia means good things for its economy.
Marvel Studios Moving to Australia
According to the article, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are all planning to film in Australia due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic in the US.
The report cites a studio source who stated that the fact that so many of the MCU movies heavily rely on green screen technology means that much of the filming can be accomplished in Australia just as easily as it could be anywhere else in the world.
But given all the celebrities, like Chris Pratt, who have recently relocated to Oz this theory doesn’t seem to farfetched.
Thor: Love and Thunder Already Filming in Oz
In fact, the article notes that Thor: Love and Thunder has already begun filming in Australia, with Natalie Portman, who will be playing the eponymous role in the movie, having recently relocated to Byron Bay for filming – which puts her very nearby Byron Bay local Chris Hemsworth, who will also be appearing in Love and Thunder, as Thor Odinson.
The article even claims that locally, Byron Bay has earned the nickname “Hollywood 2.0” – something that locals seem mixed about according to reports.
Another recent rumor states that Jennifer Lawrence is headed to Australia to film the recently announced Fantastic 4 movie, but some conflicting reports suggest that that’s nothing but a rumor.
However, Australia is not the only place in the world where Marvel Studios movies are being filmed! The upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently filming in a very interesting location: the underground city of Cappadocia, Turkey.
