This past week, Marvel cast a new Mutant, while Spider-Man claimed the throne.
Also, the Scarlet Witch may be returning soon, but the question is where. We’ve got plenty to cover in MarvelBlog News.
Hail to the King

As I mentioned last week, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was approaching a historic milestone.
The film had passed Avengers: Endgame to become the second-biggest domestic box office hit ever.

Previously, the latest Spider-Man film had surpassed Endgame to claim the opening weekend box office record.
So, Sony, the studio behind the franchise, had previously conquered arguably the biggest box office record.
Now, Brand New Day has earned one of the other big two. In order of precedence, they are global box office and domestic box office.
Brand New Day has slowed down enough that I can say with confidence it won’t break topple Avatar.

That film, gained more than 2.92 billion, whereas Spidey is about to reach $2.5 billion…slowly.
However, from a studio’s perspective, domestic box office matters much more. They keep more of the take.

International box office bears other associated costs that can drain the bottom line. North America works differently.
Studios have crafted friendly distribution deals wherein they keep a bigger piece of revenue for every ticket.
Also, they do even better during a film’s opening weekend, which is fabulous news for Sony.
The studio has now made a mint from Brand New Day, including the film’s latest feat.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now the number one domestic release of all time. The film is also likely to become the first film to earn $950 million domestically.
Before Brand New Day, only Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens had come close.

We are running out of superlatives to hurl at Peter Parker, but this one’s extraordinary.
In terms of pure studio profit, Brand New Day may very well be the most lucrative film ever.
The X-Men Update
Let’s discuss Marvel’s order of precedence right now. There are levels to this stuff.
Right now, the only film that matters is Avengers: Doomsday, albeit with a caveat.
Before then, Marvel will steal some cheap box office from Avengers: Endgame, which has reportedly earned $50 million in presales.
These ticket sales reflect domestic box office only, and my understanding is that the 2019 release is performing well overseas as well.

So, the studio will sneak in some cheap box office by adding a few minutes of footage to the beloved film.
Depending on whether you watch the IMAX version, it could be up to five minutes of original content, although you’re more likely to get just 90 seconds.

So, if those other three and a half minutes excite you, spring for the IMAX tickets. But that’s not the point.
In 2027: Avengers: Secret Wars will become the most important film for Marvel, even with Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse coming out soon.

Then, we all know what comes next. It’s X-Men, the film fans have anticipated since Disney acquired Fox in 2019.
Casting continues for that project, with Asa Germann the most recent addition. He will play Iceman.

And yes, that opens up the tantalizing possibility of an Apocalypse story,just like with X-Men ’97 this past season.
Germann becomes the second nepo actor in the cast after Samara Weaving. Her uncle is living legend Hugo Weaving.

Germann’s father, Greg, starred on Ally McBeal and, later, Talladega Nights. Asa recently appeared on Gen V and The Boys.
My understanding is that more casting remains, but Marvel is being especially tight-lipped on this one, even for them.

The other big news this week involves Vision Quest. Maybe. I’m honestly not sure.
Rumors are flying that the Scarlet Witch’s return to the MCU is imminent and will happen during the next 15 months.

The debate involves the identity of the project where Elizabeth Olsen will appear, as she hasn’t been confirmed for anything.
Vision Quest certainly makes the most sense for two reasons. It’s the third and concluding part of the WandaVision trilogy.

Also, Wanda’s entire family will be on the show, including her husband and two sons. So, her appearance would make sense.
Then again, Marvel recently performed some final filming for Avengers: Doomsday. She’d make sense showing up there, too.

After all, Scarlet Witch had Thanos beat in a one-on-one fight before he bombed his own military to stop her onslaught.
She could tip the balance against Doctor Doom. Or, she could be an x-factor in Avengers: Secret Wars. Nobody would want to fight her.

So, any of the three makes sense, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she made at least a cameo in multiple projects.
Then again, she’s not guaranteed to appear in anything. Marvel is acutely aware of online rumors and has started stoking the flames to create chaos.

So, stay tuned! We are less than a month from Vision Quest and three months from Doomsday at this point.
