Eyes to the Skies, True Believers!
According to the article on Marvel.com, the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Solider, released for streaming on Disney+ on Friday, March 19th, 2021, was the most-watched ever series premiere for the streaming service, which launched on November 12th, 2019.
While that means that The Falcon and the Winter Solider has only a little over a year’s worth of competition so far, it also means that the series premiere was more watched than the first episodes of the highly anticipated WandaVision, as well as the first episode of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, which was available for streaming the day the service launched. No small feat!
Stiff Competition Ahead
However, while The Falcon and the Winter Solider may have currently claimed the crown for most-watched Disney+ series premiere, there is some seriously stiff competition on the horizon.
Next up is Loki, the next Marvel Cinematic Universe series, the first episode of which arrives for streaming on Disney+ on Friday, June 11th. This series has a lot going for it, excitement-wise, including the fact that the God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) arrives on the streaming service with a pre-existing (and already extremely devoted) fanbase.
And as some of the more successful Disney+ MCU shows get sequel seasons, we suspect that the audience numbers will continue to go higher, further, faster – and you can bet that Marvel Blog will be there, True Believers!
