Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher Transformation Spotted in Australia
Christian Bale has been spotted with a bald head in Australia. This means only one thing… we finally have a glimpse of the actor’s transformation for his role in the upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder.
Bale’s Bald Head
This past weekend, Christian Bale was photographed attending a weekend festival with his family in Palm Beach, just outside Sydney, Australia. Since Thor: Love and Thunder is currently filming in the country, we can safely assume that Bale’s transformation is for his character in the film, Gorr the God Butcher.
Bale has long been recognized for his dedication to character by physically transforming himself for film roles. While it’s surprising to see the actor with a shaved head, it is not surprising given the supervillain’s look. In Marvel comics, Gorr is an alien who sports a pair of tentacles that sprout from his head and run past his neck. The look is similar to that of the Twi’lek in Star Wars – most noteworthy of which include Bibb Fortuna, Jabba the Hutt’s chief of staff, and Aayala Secura of Star Wars Rebels.
We don’t have any photos of Bale on set just yet. The film’s director, Taika Waititi, is trying to keep details of the film set secret. That being said, one needs only to look at photos of Gorr from Marvel comics to visualize what the actor’s final transformation may look like.
About Gorr the God Butcher
Gorr the God Butcher was introduced in 2012, in the second issue of the Marvel comic, Thor: God of Thunder. His origin planet is unnamed, but we do know his parents died when he was young and much of his difficult life was spent starving. He eventually married, but his wife and children died from the planet’s rough environment.
Eventually, Gorr began to believe there were no real gods in the universe because of the way his family had suffered. When he witnessed two battling gods fall from the sky, he became furious. In that moment, Gorr declared vengeance on all the gods in the multiverse. He took up one of the fallen god’s weapons, All-Black the Necrosword – known as the sword of living darkness. He used it to kill the remaining god an in so doing, became an immortal God Butcher. Gorr goes on to spend thousands of years hunting and killing gods throughout the cosmos.
Will Gorr Appear in Future Films?
In the comics, Gorr eventually encounters Thor and the two battle throughout the multiverse and across time. Perhaps this is why there has been talk of Gorr becoming the MCU’s next Thanos-like overarching villain?
This theory has been fueled by rumors of Bale’s multi-film contract. While the supervillain is undoubtedly powerful and Bale is heralded as one of our generation’s most talented actors, it is unlikely that Marvel would hire Bale to play a one-dimensional character. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future has in store!
Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.
