First Draft of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY HOLIDAY SPECIAL Complete!
In a Tweet sent today, on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021, James “Long Elf” Gunn revealed that he has completed work on the first draft of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, arriving “Christmastime 2022.”

The Guardians Will Be Home for Christmas
In a follow-up Tweet, Gunn confirmed the placement of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe chronology.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be set after the forthcoming fourth film in the Thor series, Thor: Love and Thunder, but before the forthcoming third film in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. Three.

The upcoming special was announced in December 2020, during the Disney Investor Day presentation, and the original special will officially premiere on Disney+ during “Christmastime 2022” (A.K.A. “Hannukahtime 2022” for The Thing, Wiccan, and Kitty Pryde).

A Very Busy Gunn
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is just one of Gunn’s many upcoming projects.
Over in the DC Universe, The Suicide Squad movie arrives in theaters and for streaming on HBO Max on August 6th, 2021. Meanwhile, Gunn’s responses to the Tweet announcing the #GotGHS included a response confirming that he’s just completed work on the first cut of the pilot of Peacemaker, a series on HBO Max spinning off from The Suicide Squad, starring Michael Cena.

Meanwhile, as far as the MCU goes, we know every Marvel Blog True Believer is waiting with bated breath for the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. However, in addition to the holiday special, Gunn is also filming footage for the brand-new Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Disney World, “Cosmic Rewind”!
