NOT A DRILL: Captain Marvel’s Flerken Gets Marvel Meow Manga
While there’s so much to love about 2019’s Captain Marvel, we can all agree that when it comes to cute and cuddly, there’s one element of the movie that is a cut above the rest: Carol’s adorable (but dangerous) pet Flerken! Marvel Meow!

Now, all of our dreams are being answered, because Marvel Comics and VIZ Media are teaming up to bring us a manga that’s all about the most adorable Flerken in the Marvel Universe!
What’s in a Name?
The first book to be released under the collaboration will be Marvel Meow by Nao Fuji, arriving on October 12th, 2021. This comic follows Chewie, Captain Marvel’s adorable pet – wait! Isn’t Carol’s pet Flerken named Goose?

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yes, Carol’s pet Flerken is known as Goose. This is most likely a reference to Top Gun, the 1986 movie that featured Anthony Edwards as a fighter pilot named “Goose.” But in the Marvel Comics universe (designated 616), Carol’s pet Flerken is named “Chewie.”

Why the name change? While there’s no official answer, we’ve got a theory, Marvel Blog True Believers: the folks at Disney didn’t want us to get confused about which furry sidekick we were talking about… Carol’s best friend Goose, or Han Solo’s best friend Chewie!
Over the course of Marvel Meow, Chewie (the Flerken) will encounter plenty of familiar Marvel Universe characters, including Thanos, Galactus, and Deadpool. If you’ve been visiting your local comic shop, you may have gotten a taste of Marvel Meow already, as some of the pages have been released as variant covers for various Marvel Comics.

Deadpool’s gonna be there too
It isn’t just the Flerkens who will be getting their day in the sun thanks to the VIZ x Marvel collab either! Next year, we’ll get Deadpool: Samurai by Sanshirou Kasama and drawn by Hikaru Uesugi translated into English and released in the United States in February 2022.
