Get Down America, Vote Method Man!
In a post made to Instagram, actor and hip-hop legend Method Man confirmed his interest in appearing on-screen as another Marvel character! Here at Marvel Blog, this story was brought to my attention thanks to Josh Ryan’s coverage on our sister site, Mickey Blog.
Marvel Blog wants to join in on the fun and bet on who will play Lucas Bishop, one of the mutants closely associated with the X-Men stories, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, our sister site was on The Pulse and noticed that Method Man is already campaigning for the role of Lucas Bishop in the MCU! Get Down America, Vote Method Man!
Marvel’s Mutants: Bishop
Method Man posted a rendered image depicting himself as Lucas Bishop, a mutant out of time, who is born in a camp in Brooklyn in which he’s branded with the letter “M” over his eyes – just like the art by BossLogic. After a rough start as a cop, Bishop is honored when Charles Xavier (A.K.A. Professor X) invites him to join the X-Men, a team of heroes he had idolized since childhood.
Method Man sees himself in Lucas Bishop: he’s a man with a chance to join a team of heroes that he’s idealized since his childhood; and he’s a man teaching that superheros can change lives.
Marvel/Method
While 20th Century Fox previously possessed the rights to make the X-Men movies and shows based on Marvel’s mutants, those rights returned to Marvel Studios at the end of 2019, when Fox was acquired by Disney.
And, the rapper and Marvel/Method podcast host has been running a campaign for the role ever since by posting pictures of himself as Bishop (see above for another rendition of Method Man as the X-Man by digital artist Son of a Saint), and even trying his hand at penning a Marvel Comic. Clearly, he knows that comic book writers are more likely to get cameo appearances in Marvel Studios films!
We think the likelihood of this casting is increasing by the moment because of WandaVision’s lean on the fourth wall with the meta casting of “Fietro,” A.K.A. Ralph Bohner (played by Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver in the Fox Marvel movies).
Plus, Madripoor recently appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, another point in favor of the introduction of the mutants (and Lucas Bishop) into the MCU, since Madripoor is notable in comics as the home of Wolverine.
Another Marvel concept that was previously held by Fox is that of the Super Skrull, a specific type of Skrull soldier that figures into Secret Invasion, and now we’ve got an upcoming Disney+ series based on just that story. Mutant Skrulls anyone?
Suspicious indeed, Marvel Blog True Believers!
A Mutant Method Man
While Method Man may be best known for his work with Wu-Tang Clan, he’s also a prodigious and prolific actor. In fact, he’s already appeared on-screen in a Marvel show!
In the first season of Luke Cage on Netflix, featuring Luke Coulter in the eponymous role, Method Man played himself, appearing in a scene in which Method Man met Cage in a bodega (and the two legends acknowledged their mutual respect for one another).
Then, Frank Castle bonds with a kid over Wu-Tang Clan in The Punisher on Netflix, another feather in the rapper’s cap.
Could a mutant Method Man in the MCU mean more music in store? Would Bishop perform alongside Agatha? We’re keeping our fingers crossed!
