REVIEW: In REPTIL #1, Adventure Returns
In Reptil #1 by Terry Blas, Enid Balám, Victor Olazaba, Carlos Lopez, and Joe Sabino, with a cover by Paco Medina and Federico Blee, readers will meet (or be re-introduced to) Humberto Lopez, A.K.A. Reptil!
History of Reptil
Although you may not be familiar with the character of Reptil, he already has something of a history in Marvel Comics… but never fear, Marvel Blog True Believers! Within the first few pages of Reptil #1, you’ll get a character recap that hits all the major story beats (and features a pretty awesome page layout to boot).
The short version of Reptil’s powers is that he can transform parts of his body into dinosaur form! However, he cannot completely turn into a dinosaur, or he risks being overtaken by the dinosaur brain.
One of the great things about this issue is that it builds on many pre-existing aspects of the character. For example, Humberto’s cousin Jules helps him out by showing him an app called “I-Know-Saur,” pointing out that if he can turn into any kind of dinosaur, maybe he should learn more about them!
Visiting Los Angeles
The other aspect that I loved about this issue was the visit to the Fashion District in Downtown Los Angeles.
It was really neat to see this real-life location in the panels of Reptil #1!
While so many of the stories in the Marvel Comics Universe are set in New York City, there are others that take place elsewhere in the world… and it is always neat to see Marvel Comics characters visiting a locale that you yourself have set foot in!
