Marvel Comics Teases ‘The Death of Doctor Strange’
In an enigmatic Tweet sent on Friday, June 4th, 2021, the official Doctor Strange Twitter account teased an upcoming story, The Death of Doctor Strange, that will see the Sorcerer Supreme, a.k.a. Stephen Strange, going on the ultimate journey: they journey to the afterlife!

Since then, Marvel has revealed some of the creative team, announcing today that Jed MacKay and Lee Garbett will be behind the interiors for the series, while Kaare Andrews will be providing cover art for at least the first issue.
Alas, Poor Logan
Marvel Comics readers will be shocked to learn that a major character is going to be killed. However, in another, more accurate way, this is the sort of story that takes place from time to time, even in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
In fact, in 2014, a series called The Death of Wolverine by Charles Soule, Steve McNiven, Jay Leisten, Justin Ponsor, and Chris Eliopoulos saw one of the most recognizable mutants meet his fate…
Well, sort of! Because as we all know by now, death in the Marvel Multiverse isn’t quite like death in our world. Think of the way Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) went on to have a full TV series after dying onscreen in 2012’s The Avengers, or the way that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) now has his own upcoming Disney+ show even though we saw Thanos snap his neck in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.
And there’s also the fact that having a longstanding character die (even temporarily) can open up space for other characters to tell their stories. In fact, after Logan died in The Death of Wolverine, we got several years of Laura Kinney as Wolverine, which are some of my favorite Marvel Comics issues ever published.
Look Out Stephen
Nevertheless, with a title like The Death of Doctor Strange, we feel like Stephen should probably be watching his back in this series so that the Sorcerer Supreme doesn’t getting snapped for a second time.
