LOKI 502: Required Reading: Loki: Where Mischief Lies
Are you wrapped up in Marvel Studios’ Loki, Marvel Blog Untrue Believers? We’re sure that you can’t keep your mind off the dazzling Disney+ series, and here at Loki Academy, we can’t blame you. That’s why we’ve prepared a reading assignment that gives you the opportunity to spend more time with everyone’s favorite God of Outcasts!
In the prose novel Loki: Where Mischief Lies by Mackenzi Lee, with cover art by Stephanie Hans and a cover design by Kurt Hartman, you can spend more than 400 pages with legendary Norse trickster, and this incarnation of Loki is very close to the Variant we’ve been following on Loki!
Previously on Loki
Loki: Where Mischief Lies tells a tale of Loki from his youth, and is set at a time before the events we saw unfold in Thor, the first appearance of Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This story explores how Loki honed his magical powers in his youth, learning from both his mother, Frigga, and from Amora, a peer who eventually takes the name Enchantress. In addition to these relationships, the animosity that exists between Loki and his male family members, Odin and Thor, is examined at length, as well.
The novel not only highlights some too-often overlooked aspects of Loki’s character, like the fact that he is genderqueer and bisexual, this story also delves into why Loki dresses the way he does (aka why he regularly dons kinky boots), and what he thinks about the Midgardian’s perception of him.
Loads of Fun
This story sends Loki on an adventure that sees him exploring Victorian London, where he joins up with the SHARP society.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was the many Easter Eggs! Whether you are a fan of Marvel Comics or a fan of the MCU, there are loads of allusions… I won’t share them here for fear of spoiling, but suffice to say it will keep you grinning from beginning to end!
Hit the Books
If you just can’t get enough of the Loki Variant on Loki, I strongly recommend you check out this novel! It reads like a prequel to the Disney+ series, and would pair well with a re-watch of Thor: Ragnarok.
