But what’s that noise, Marvel Blog True Believers? It isn’t just “Eye of the Tiger,” it’s the sound of the fourth wall being completely shattered!
Meta Madness
Did you know that She-Hulk will be playing with metafiction? This has long been an element of the She-Hulk comics, and it will be playing a role in the series, as well.
Even Titania has some meta aspects to her character. The character was first introduced in Secret Wars #3 by Jim Shooter, Michael Zeck, John Beatty, and Christie Scheele.
On Shooter’s blog, he posted a picture of the real-life Mary MacPherran, who was the loose basis for the average woman who would become Titania! The MacPherran of our world was a Marvel production assistant, and Shooter asked her if he could name a character after her.
As Shooter explained in a comment on that blog post, it was common practice to take characteristics from real-life people and put them in the panels of Marvel (and DC) Comics! Shooter cites several other cartoonists who did the same, including Mark Gruenwald (who was the basis for the appearance of Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius in Loki), Steve Gerber (creator of Howard the Duck), and Jack Kirby himself.
This propensity is shining through in She-Hulk, which is rumored to feature Megan Thee Stallion in a recurring role… in which she’ll be playing herself!
