The Amazing Spider-Man #93 Debuts a Brand New Ben Reilly
The long-awaited conclusion to the fantastic Beyond Story arc has finally arrived, and it brings to life a new and unknown enemy, as The Amazing Spider-Man #93 debuts a brand new Ben Reilly.
There are few characters that have so firmly established themselves as cult favorites in the same vein as the famed Spider-Man clone, Ben Reilly.
A character that has seemingly always gotten the short end of the stick, Reilly was the central focus of a narrative that saw an immense risk from Marvel not pay off.
During what has been dubbed the Clone Saga, Ben Reilly was the clone of Peter Parker that was crafted as an attempt for Marvel to soft reboot the iconic Spider-Man; an attempt that angered fans of the iconic comic book creation.
It ended up backfiring on Marvel, and in return, they were left with a character they had no idea what to do with; a reality that exists to this day.
Reilly was a character created with the same memories as Peter Parker, genuinely believing he was the very same person, but being forced to give all of it up because Parker was still present, and refused to share his life.
Thus, into the shadows Ben went, occasionally being explored as the alternate identity Spider-Verse character named the Scarlett Spider, he remained a troublesome character for Marvel to figure out.
That is where Zeb Wells and The Amazing Spider-Man series comes in; as the carefully crafted Beyond Arc gave way for Reilly to finally embrace his reality as the Spider-Man of the Marvel Universe.
Yet, like all things have been for Ben Reilly, tragedy was slowly approaching, with the culmination of that storyline coming in The Amazing Spider-Man #93; as a brand new Ben Reilly is born in the place of the character we all know and love.
Marvel used this iconic final issue of the Beyond story arc to debut the enigmatic Chasm; a greenish symbiotic looking entity that is unknown apart from his takeover of the Ben Reilly identity.
We are excited to see where Ben’s story goes from here, and can only hope that the tragedy is short-lived, for Marvel’s most burdened creation.
