REVIEW: Excitement or Extinction in Reptil #3
In Reptil #3 by Terry Blas, Enid Balám, Victor Olazaba, Carlos Lopez, and Joe Sabino, with a main cover by Paco Medina and Federico Blee, we get another issue that delivers on all the best stuff this series has been offering: family, fun, and dinosaurs (in fact, Blas was just interviewed about this on the Marvel’s Voices podcast with Angélique Roché).

Excavating the Excellent
What I really liked about this issue is the way it continues to offer more of what made the first two issues so great! A big part of that is the supporting cast, which functions to highlight the themes of found family.

Both of Humberto’s – or Beto – for short cousins are very interesting characters. Although they are only human, they have plenty to offer! Eva’s fledging magical powers continue to be well used (and her knowledge of the basics of runes would surely impress Agatha Harkness herself), and Julian is an insightful ally!

One way that Julian has helped Humberto is by introducing him to the dinosaur app back in issue one.

In Reptil #3, we get to see how that help offered by Julian has leveled up Humberto’s superhero game! Overall, Humberto’s two cousins make a great supporting cast.

This is demonstrated by a scene where the trio breaks into a Los Angeles mansion that is just too much fun! When you get to the two pages that display this sequence, Marvel Blog True Believers, you will be totally taken with every single panel!

And speaking of LA, just like previous issues of Reptil, this one reminds you that the story is taking place in Southern California. Not only does the mansion definitely look as though it would be at home in the Hollywood Hills, but we see a flier that suggests the fourth issue will include a scene set at MacArthur Park in LA.

Reptil #3: Blas Variant Detected!
If you head to your local comic shop to pick up Reptil #3, you may want to consider the variant cover – it was done by Blas himself, who was also the writer for this issue. It’s a Two-in-One, Marvel Blog True Believers! Blas will also be writing a story in the upcoming Marvel’s Voices: Comunidades anthology.

I only have one complaint about this issue: it’s the penultimate entry in this series. Boo! We want more Reptil! Let’s hope we get to see another arc of this hero’s story soon (although this does seem like a real possibility, it seems like the book did well and the character appears on one of the Comunidades variant covers)!
