LEGO Reveals Sakaarian Iron Man in WHAT IF…?
A LEGO set has been released for sale on the shopDisney website for $29.99, and it may just give us a glimpse of an upcoming episode of Marvel’s What If…?, the animated series that will premiere Wednesday, August 11th, 2021 on Disney+, and that episode may feature a Sakaarian Iron Man.
This new LEGO set seems to suggest that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) will be sent to Sakaar, the site of the arena battle between Thor and Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, and he will be fully equipped with Sakaarian Iron Man armor.
Hulk Smash?
The set features what seems like a Hulkbuster Iron Man armor, but built from components that you might find on Sakaar, the trash world seen in Thor: Ragnarok. This is where the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) pitted Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) against Thor (Chris Hemsworth), as Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) looked on.
But now there’s a new person to “just look on”: Uatu, the Watcher, voiced by Jeffrey Wright in the upcoming What If…?
The Lego set includes mini-figures of Stark, Valkyrie, and the Watcher, and a build of the Sakaarian Iron Man armor. And if this isn’t enough for you, well, the armor can be rebuilt into a race car too! What else could you ask for?
LEGO Guessing Games
It’s not unusual to get glimpses of upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe offerings through LEGO sets.
The first time we saw Giant-Man, the big version of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, who made his debut in Captain America: Civil War, was as a build in a LEGO set.
And more recently, we got our first look at Shang-Chi’s costume thanks to a LEGO minifig.
What can we glean from this LEGO set? It seems like Stark will be heading to Sakaar, possibly instead of Thor. Does that mean he’ll be the one facing the Hulk in the arena, or will he have another challenger (maybe Beta Ray Bill)?

Speculate Away
Part of the fun of the anticipation of upcoming MCU stories is guessing at what they might reveal!
Here’s my fondest dream, Marvel Blog True Believers: between Captain Carter and Thompson’s incarnation of Valkyrie, we now have two members of the team from the 2018 run of Exiles (three if you count the Watcher)… now give us Chibi Wolverine!
