Will VENOM 2 Be Delayed in the US?
In an article posted to Murphy’s Multiverse by Joseph Aberl, it was reported that Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage had been delayed from September to October in New Zealand. Could the delay indicate that the movie’s release may also be delayed in the United States?
Let There Be Carnage (Eventually)
The speculation for the article arises in part from the fact that the Delta Variant of the COVID-19 virus is currently wreaking havoc across the United States. As rates of infection rise, some wonder whether or not we may see some upcoming movies delayed, similar to what occurred in spring and summer of 2020 with Black Widow and other releases.
Last week, Clifford the Big Red Dog, a family movie from Sony Pictures, had its September 17th release date delayed.
As Aberl noted, the first trailer for Venom 2 included a September release date.
However, the second trailer for Venom 2 no longer had a specific date listed, instead shifting to the more vague “Fall 2021,” a fact also noted here in my coverage of the movie at Marvel Blog.
All of these details are fueling speculation that Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage may be delayed from its September release date in the United States, as well.
Consequences of Delay
If Venom 2 is delayed, it raises many questions. Will other movies also be delayed, or released simultaneously for streaming? The highly anticipated Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings is still scheduled for a September 3rd release, but maybe a surprise simultaneous streaming release will ensure eager (but immunocompromised) fans like me get the chance to support the movie, too!
