Shirtless Shang-Chi Rises
Marvel Studios released a new 30-second clip for the superhero adventure on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021, showcasing the character’s abs, powerset, and family legacy.
The clip begins with a shirtless Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) in different training scenarios, including one where a younger Shang-Chi is taking blows to the mid-section from several bō staffs. “All my life, I tried to forget my past, my dad, and the ten rings,” Shang-Chi begins.
However, his father Wenwu (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai) has a different message for his son. “You were meant for greatness,” Wenwu begins, as we see shots of a young Shang-Chi training. The dialogue is followed by a number of action-packed shots (some of Shirtless Shang-Chi and some of the character in full costume) showing off his moves, as he tells his father, “I am nothing like you.”
Meant for Greatness
The clip then switches to Katy (Awkwafina) saying, “Hell yeah” as the mystical Ten Rings circle around Shang-Chi as he fights a sword-wielding villain.
Luckily, Shang-Chi is there to literally fly through the air, and presumably save the day or learn a lesson (so that he can save the day later).
Then, the clip winds down with Shang-Chi sitting on an airplane next to Katy, who apparently still can’t pronounce his name correctly, although she was marketed as his best friend in a previous trailer, so this seems suspect…
The cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, Fala Chen as Jiang Li, Ronny Chieng as Jon Jon, Meng’er Zhang as Xialing, plus returning Marvel Cinematic Universe are Benedict Wong as Wong and Tim Roth as Abomination. Destin Daniel Cretton directs from a script he co-wrote with Dave Callaham and Andrew Lanham.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is arriving in theaters on September 3rd, 2021.
