REVIEW: New Beginnings in FCBD – THE AVENGERS/HULK
Did you get a chance to visit your local comic shop (LCS) for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD), Marvel Blog True Believers (MBTB – just kidding)? As devoted readers are already aware, Marvel had two comics available to celebrate the event. Fortunately, thanks to the fact that yours truly was on the front lines on Saturday, helping out at Nuclear Comics, my favorite LCS, I was able to secure both of them! Here’s what I thought of FCBD: The Avengers/Hulk, with a cover by Ryan Ottley and Frank Martin!

“The Tower at the Center of Everything”
In “The Tower at the Center of Everything” by Jason Aaron, Iban Coello, Brian Reber, and Cory Petit we get introduced to the next chapter in the Avengers storyline. This story definitely reminded me of Heroes Reborn, also written by Aaron, in the best way possible – like it is going to take some of the groundwork laid by that event and move it in interesting directions!
Plus, this story had cool visuals, like an army of Deathloks.

And a Tower at the “Center of Everything”? That reminds of me of Stephen King’s Dark Tower (and I love to be reminded of King’s Dark Tower).

Consider my interest piqued on this one!
“Ignition”
In the second story, “Ignition” by Donny Cates, Ottley, Martin, and Petit, we get to see a showdown between Hulk and M.O.D.O.K.

In most instances, this would be a “‘nuff said” situation, but I also have to mention the fact that Hulk throws a freight train at M.O.D.O.K. It’s just as awesome as it sounds, Marvel Blog True Believers!
This one sets up the next storyline for Hulk, and it looks like it’ll be a good sequel to Immortal Hulk!
Earth’s Mightiest
Overall, this issue was a great introduction to two upcoming Marvel Comics storylines. Did you get a chance to pick it up on FCBD, Marvel Blog True Believers? Which one of the stories was your favorite? Let us know what you thought in the comment section!
