AVENGERS Comic Fights COVID-19 Misinformation in NY
In an article posted to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, August 25th, 2021, it was announced that Marvel Comics and SOMOS Community Care are teaming-up to bring readers an all-new limited edition comic starring the Avengers that will help kids understand why COVID-19 vaccinations are fundamental!
In Avengers: We Are Resilient, a special comic story by Henry Barajas, Craig Rousseau, Chris Sotomayor, and Joe Sabino, the heroes of the Marvel Comics Universe are helping save our world by helping to educate readers about the realities of the COVID-19 vaccination.
Vaccines Help Fight COVID-19
SOMOS Community Care is a physician-led network of community doctors based in New York City, New York. The collaboration with Marvel Entertainment – created by Funny Or Die studio head and co-founder of SOMOS US Henry R. Muñoz, III – will extend through Hispanic Heritage Month.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with SOMOS Community Care for this new comic book and campaign to continue to educate and encourage our communities during these trying times,” Dan Buckley, the President of Marvel Entertainment, was quoted as saying in the THR article.

If you live in New York City, there will be a series of in-person events that you can attend to learn more about the vaccine. These events will feature the distribution of a paper version of Avengers: We Are Resilient, as well as a series of posters.
“This road to recovery runs through the immigrant communities of color that have been hit hardest by this pandemic and left behind in a vaccine roll-out marked by inequity and misinformation campaigns. Being able to unite Marvel Entertainment with the trusted voices from the community doctors of SOMOS Community Care in a public education campaign designed to drive awareness is a really big deal. This campaign symbolizes where art meets purpose and shows that people nationwide can come together and build community, and look together to the future,” Muñoz told the Brooklyn Eagle.

Comics Versus Pandemic
However, Avengers: We Are Resilient isn’t the first time that Marvel Comics has taken up the battle against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic!
Earlier in 2021, we reported on the second issue of The Vitals, a Marvel Comic that spotlights the front-line medical workers who are regularly battling COVID-19, after being alerted to its existence after the mother of a nurse told me how much it meant to her daughter to see herself represented in these stories of real world superheroes.
And if you want to see some of our onscreen heroes getting the jab so we can all go back to Disneyland again (even us high riskers), check out Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, getting his COVID-19 vaccination (you can do so here)!
Plus, it isn’t just the heroes of Marvel who are getting vaccinations: here’s Magneto (Ian McKellan) getting his COVID-19 vaccine!
Remember: getting the COVID-19 vaccine protects you and those around you – and that’s what heroes do!
