Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Marvel Studios’ newest blockbuster, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was released in theaters this past Friday, September 3rd, 2021.
Starring Simu Liu in the eponymous role, the movie quickly shattered box office records for Labor Day weekend, quickly earning nearly as much as the previous record holder (2007’s Halloween) by the conclusion of the first day of the four-day weekend. And ultimately, whomping that film’s record by the time the final box officer numbers rolled in.

But while plenty of people braved the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to see the movie in theaters, this analysis notes that viewers didn’t just watch Shang-Chi, they loved Shang-Chi!
The whopping 98% fresh score currently enjoyed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on RottenTomatoes.com comes from a whole slough of positive reviews. If you’d like to read some of them, I cherry-picked my very favorites already!
And according to GamesRadar, that’s a big deal. It means that not only did Shang-Chi perform better than anything in the MCU so far (Spider-Man: Far From Home is the next biggest hit with audiences with a score of 95%), it also performed better than Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which earned a score of 93%, while Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight reached 94%.
With an amazing box office record-shattering premiere and an audience who has been completely won over by the newest Marvel superheroes, we’re frankly on the edge of our seats waiting for the official announcement that a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is on the way.
In the meantime, we’re going to be speculating on what’s next for the superhero, and whether or not he’ll be appearing the next time we see Wong (Benedict Wong)!
