What’s Up Next for VENOM in Marvel Comics?
In an article posted to the official Marvel website on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021, writers Al Ewing and Ram V laid out their vision for Venom… and just like freestyle jazz, it’s all about the notes they don’t hit!
Along with Bryan Hitch, the two writer will be taking over on Venom #1 on October 13th, 2021. In advance of the release of the new issue, the duo spoke with Marvel about what readers can expect when they take the reins for Venom next month.
This Jam Session Has Too Many Licks and Not Enough Comps
One element was clear: music will play a role in the vision Ewing and V have for Venom. In a quote, Ewing compared the book to an album, with each issue being a single. In this metaphor, Dylan and Eddie Brock are the instruments, and a different instrument might take the lead depending on the issue.
It makes sense that Ewing is in a musical state of mind: after all, the Venom symbiote is notorious for its relationship with sound. In 2007’s Spider-Man 3, director Sam Raimi clearly recognized the relationship between Venom and sound, with musical scenes playing an important role in the movie’s Venom subplot.
The announcement also reminded me that Eminem penned some this song for 2018’s Venom, and I’m pretty pleased about that!
Ewing goes on to say that the completed Venom series might resemble either a concept album or a symphony, but one thing’s for sure, Marvel Blog True Believers: all of this is music to symbiote fans’ ears!
Venom #1
Venom #1 will arrive on October 13th, 2021, and the series will follow both Dylan and Eddie Brock, continuing the setup seen in the Spider-Man/Venom FCBD issue.
