Okoye to the People
According to the article on Marvel.com, Okoye to the People will tell the story of the first time that Okoye visited America. Taking the form of her very first mission for the Dora Milaje that took her outside of the borders of Wakanda, Okoye is shocked to learn that the people of New York City aren’t impressed by her status as a member of the Wakandan Royal Guard.
The article explains that soon after arriving in the Big Apple, Okoye meets a group of teenagers who are attempting to deal with their own difficult situation: the gentrification of their Brooklyn neighborhood, Brownsville.
Soon, Okoye is struggling as she is trapped between her duty to Wakanda, and the desire to help the people of Brownsville in their struggle against a manipulative real estate mogul!
In the interview on the official Marvel website, you can learn more about why Zoboi is the perfect author for this book, including the fact that her Marvel origin story was Wesley Snipes as Blade, or how her work with community-based programs gives her the knowledge she needs to tell this essential tale of people versus real estate power.
