Hotel New York
One of May’s most recent projects was Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel! We’re not super sure what May did on this project, because none of the interview questions concern it, but we sure would like to learn more!
And because we couldn’t help ourselves, Marvel Blog looked up May’s role in the design process for the new hotel, and apparently she is responsible for all of the amazing artwork inside Disney’s Hotel New York. May told AttractionsManagement.com that:
I approached the hotel as an art installation rather than art and objects as decoration. Each artist is inspired by Marvel characters and stories in different ways and I wanted to celebrate their unique point of view and how that defines the ever-evolving quality of Marvel.
The Women of Marvel interview with the Imagineer does include several pictures of the amazing art on display inside this Marvelous hotel, including a wall with a hexagonal painted pattern and a series of paintings of Scarlet Witch and the other women of Marvel Comics!
Also included on the interview page is a clip that features many of the Avengers actors discussing the features of the Disney’s Hotel New York, including Paul Bettany, Mark Ruffalo, and Danai Gurira, who inspired some of the artwork inside the hotel.
According to Marvel Head Boss in Charge Kevin Feige, who appears near the conclusion of the clip, this is one of the largest collections of Marvel-themed artwork in the world! I sure wish I could see it for myself, Marvel Blog True Believers!
More About Caroline May
According to the questions May answered in the interview, she is a big fan of “good food,” and her favorite New York snack is a bagel (but one that’s loaded with cream cheese, onion, tomato, and capers – personally, I’d throw some lox in the mix, too, and I think Spider-Man would agree with me one that one, Marvel Blog True Believers).
And of particular interest to readers of this blog will be the revelation that May’s favorite Disney attraction is Space Mountain, which blew her mind when she first rode it as a youngster (and still gives her major feelings of nostalgia when she visits Walt Disney World in Florida).
