REVIEW: Dating Sim Gone Wrong in Hulkling & Wiccan #1
In the first episode of Hulkling & Wiccan by Josh Trujillo, Jodi Nishijima, Matt Milla, and Ariana Maher, we get to check in with the newly married couple as they invite a few friends over for dinner! Sounds like a nice and relaxing slice-of-life story, right? Wrong! Read on to find out why the happy couple is going to be having a rough time this month, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Possibilities: Part One
First and foremost, let’s talk a little about the surprise debut of this series! While we have seen plenty of new Infinity Comics since they were re-launched as scrolling WEBTOON-style reads, this one was kept under wraps until it debuted on the morning of Monday, November 1st, 2021.
On top of that, this format means that we don’t have to wait as long for the next entry: we’ll get a new installment of Hulkling & Wiccan each Monday in November, with the full story being four episodes. This means that by the time December gets here, we’ll have experienced another complete tale about one of the best couples in the Marvel Multiverse… sign me up, Marvel Blog True Believers!
As far as this first episode goes, my favorite part was the inclusion of a mysterious figure… who I assume is Agatha Harkness! The most devoted Marvel Blog True Believers will know that Harkness is one of my very favorite characters, so her appearance here is more than welcome. Does this suggest the story is related to Billy’s mom, the Scarlet Witch? I’ll be tuning in each Monday to find out!
I also enjoyed the fact that Wiccan and Hulkling were hosting a gay dinner party with other Marvel Comics heavy-hitters like Northstar of Alpha Flight and Iceman. It’s always great to see the “fun stuff’ superheroes do in their downtime, and sharing potluck dinners with other members of their queer community fits the bill perfectly!
