Happy Thanksgiving! Celebrate with Gobby
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! Are you doing something special for the holiday? Whether you aren’t observing the day or you’re entertaining family, considering watching Spider-Man (2002). You may not remember it, but the Tobey Maguire-starring movie that launched Sam Raimi’s trilogy features a scene in which Gobby himself, Norman Osborne (Willem Dafoe) joins Spidey and his nearest and dearest for one of the most awkward Thanksgiving dinners ever committed to film!
Marvelous Thanksgiving
The scene also features many of the other main characters of the original Spider-Man trilogy, including Aunt May (Rosemary Harris), Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), and Harry Osborne (James Franco).
When Norman, whose secret identity is the murderous Green Goblin, arrives at Peter and Harry’s apartment for Thanksgiving dinner, he brings a fruitcake… and almost catches Peter in his Spidey suit! When a drop of blood falls from a wound Norman himself gave Peter, it arouses Gobby’s suspicion.
But when Peter arrives through the front door in his Thanksgiving best, Gobby seems to have relaxed (although he does look at Aunt May pretty murderously when she slaps his hand as he steals a taste of dinner). However, the serenity doesn’t last, because when Aunt May notices Peter’s wound and points it out, Norman realizes Peter must be Spider-Man!
Then, Normal leaves in a villainous huff, saying mean things about MJ in the process. Look at it this way, Marvel Blog True Believers: no matter how awkward your family dinner turns out to be, it can’t be this bad!
Gobby Will Be Home for the Holidays
Now is the perfect time to watch Spider-Man (2002) featuring Dafoe as Gobby, because the character will be part of the interdimensional Sinister Six that goes after Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel Spider-Man 3: No Way Home.
Is it possible the MCU’s Peter won’t fare as well surviving Gobby’s holiday season machinations as Maguire’s version did? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comment section!
