WandaVision Runes Appear in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Clip
Welcome to Spider-Week! The first round of movie critics just saw Marvel Studios’ latest web-slinging adventure Spider-Man: No Way Home, which hits theaters on December 17th, 2021. And now, a new clip is giving WandaVision fans something to speculate about as we avoid the next three days on the internet. In a Sony Pictures India clip, there’s a glimpse of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) using magic in a way he’s never done before — but in a way that is very, very familiar to the witchy women of Marvel.
Both Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), who used the runes to trap the Scarlet Witch in nightmares of her past, and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), who used the runes to defeat Agnes at her own wicked game, used the spell casting technique in WandaVision, so could the rumor we reported on back in February really be true? Could Olsen be in Spider-Man 3?
Don’t believe me, Marvel Blog True Believers? Then, watch the clip for yourself below:
In the recently released Spider-Man: No Way Home clip, Doctor Strange is seen floating in the sky using runes for a magic spell. Considering that magical runes were introduced in WandaVision, the 20 second clip could be teasing that Peter Parker’s next adventure includes another magic wielder (and yes, I could probably confirm this now that first reviews are out, but I’m not going to spoil the movie for myself.)
As fans of WandaVision may recall, runes are used for a specific purpose: to ensure the magic user casting them is the only one able to use magic inside the area in which the runes have been cast. Whatever Doctor Strange is doing in that brief moment in the clip, it at least means he’s trying to ensure no other magic user can interfere. Could it be Wanda? Wong? Evil Strange?
Well, Marvel Blog True Believers, I had finally dismissed the claim that Scarlet Witch is showing up in Spider-Way: No Way Home as a pure rumor, but then the Sony India clip appeared online showing Doctor Strange’s use of runes… And my hopes have been raised again. Who do you hope will appear? Let us know in the comment section below!
