WONG ALERT: Let’s Talk About That No Way Home Spoiler
Have you had a chance to see the newest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: No Way Home? You’re in good company if you have, Marvel Blog True Believers, as the newest entry in the ongoing collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures is breaking all kinds of records… and it’s going about it in the Wong way!
If you haven’t had the chance to see the movie yet and want to avoid being spoiled, then it’s best to leave this page now! But here’s a protip if you are still trying to avoid movie theaters, like me: look around for a local Drive-In theater!
The Wong Cinematic Universe
In an interview with Benedict Wong on the Red Carpet for No Way Home, the Marvel Entertainment interviewer got the chance to ask about the expanding role Wong plays in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Wong, in a recent email, Marvel Studios Head-Boss-in-Charge Kevin Feige joked that it was fast becoming the “Wong Cinematic Universe.” Considering we’ve had our eye on Wong since the first No Way Home teaser debuted back in August 2021, we can’t say we’re disappointed by this development, Marvel Blog True Believers!
In No Way Home, we learned an important detail about the state of Wong in the MCU: he’s now the Sorcerer Supreme! It turns out that, because Strange was technically dead for five years during the Blip, Wong has inherited the title of Sorcerer Supreme from the sometimes-dead Strange (echoes of the ongoing Death of Doctor Strange event in the panels of Marvel Comics).
More Sorcerer Supreme Please
Now that we know Wong is the Sorcerer Supreme, his swagger in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings makes all the more sense. No wonder he snatched that drink off the table at the conclusion of the movie… Sorcerer Supremacy is thirsty work!
