This week in MarvelBlog News, the inevitable has finally happened.

Disney+ has canceled its sole remaining live-action Marvel program.

Is this the end of the MCU on Disney+? Not so fast! Let’s discuss a nuanced situation.

Daredevil Canceled

We will begin with the least surprising story in a while, albeit a frustrating one.

Daredevil: Born Again will end with the completion of its third season.

For anyone paying attention, this announcement has seemed like a foregone conclusion for a while.

After Marvel greenlit the project, the problems started almost immediately.

You may recall that Disney threw out the first several episodes of the show and started again.

The writers’ strike gave the studio some cover to admit what the stars already knew.

This new version of Daredevil paled in comparison to the original one on Netflix.

Thankfully, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio got a seat at the table afterward.

So, the rebooted episodes delighted fans, reminding us of why we loved the original series.

Daredevil: Born Again’s first season was a true masterpiece, albeit with a caveat.

Few people watched, with the show never charting on Nielsen’s Streaming Ratings.

Since Agatha All Along had just done so…and X-Men ’97 did, too, it was a shocking turn.

For whatever reason, casual viewers never gave the new version of the show a chance.

After season two finished filming, Daredevil’s fate appeared uncertain.

Disney ultimately agreed to an additional season, thereby fulfilling an agreement.

Reports suggest that Cox and D’Onofrio had signed on for three seasons.

In this regard, a handful of reporters aren’t describing this move as a cancellation.

From their perspective, everyone had originally agreed to three seasons.

Now that filming has concluded, those deals are done…mostly.

The Continued Marvel Weirdness

Here’s where our story takes an odd turn: Showrunner Dario Scardapane is out.

I don’t mean at the end of the series, either. Disney just ditched him.

Currently, the crew is working hard in the editing bay to finish the series.

Scardapane will no longer join them, as he’s no longer a part of postproduction.

Let’s just say this move is highly unusual and may speak to Disney’s dissatisfaction.

I haven’t recapped the entirety of season two yet on this site…and for a reason.

That season finale got really, really stupid at the end. It’s the consensus opinion.

The story finds the Kingpin killing any number of citizens. Then, we learn his punishment.

He’s living on an island paradise thanks to a cushy government deal. It’s insipid.

I can’t help but wonder whether that aspect factored into Marvel’s decision.

What I can say for certain is that Disney hates the current Marvel perception.

As I’ve discussed, many insiders believe that Disney won’t create new live-action content in the short term.

Even if Disney does, it’ll presumably be one-offs rather than complete series.

To combat those claims, Marvel let everyone know it’s working on more stories.

Specifically, something called Zodiac is making the rounds as the next big project.

Note that no casting has happened nor is this title anywhere near production yet.

What’s the Deal, Marvel?

Marvel’s trumpeting Zodiac almost as proof of life. So, what is it?

Well, there is a Marvel character named Zodiac who showed up during Dark Reign.

However, Marvel has suggested that it’s closer to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in tone.

In fact, these characters may be working in opposition to Nick Fury’s bunch.

Reports suggest that the show would lean heavily on cameos for star power.

I can tell you who won’t be making a cameo, though, and it’s Mahershala Ali.

The clearly frustrated actor recently performed an interview. Guess what came up!

Yes, he once again discussed Blade, as that’s the topic on everyone’s mind.

When the interviewer described Blade as the greatest failure of Kevin Feige’s career, Ali readily agreed.

At this point, I honestly don’t know why Disney doesn’t just put together a production.

They’re getting reamed, with no end in sight, for the failure to make a Blade movie.

Since some other recent Marvel movies haven’t exactly been grand slams, what would be the harm?

People seem to want this, and Ali’s furious about all the broken promises.

Disney is doing more harm than good by being stubborn about this one.

As for the possibility of more live-action shows, let’s be real here.

With nothing in active production, we’re talking about a late 2028 release at the earliest.

By any reasonable metric, the live-action MCU is dead on Disney+ for now.

Marvel Miscellany

I won’t spoil it for you, but the Avengers: Endgame Re-Release is now in theaters.

Before its domestic debut, the film appeared in a few international locales, though.

For this reason, word leaked of the various enhancement scenes.

These are the ones Marvel filmed to connect Endgame directly to Avengers: Doomsday.

Based on reports, there are two main connectors, one of which is obvious.

The other…well, it’ll surprise you for sure, especially given recent events in the MCU.

If you don’t mind being spoiled, the details are EASY to find online.

They align with what I’ve been hearing about the upcoming Avengers movies.

Speaking of which, Simu Liu recently confirmed that he’ll appear in both.

Some rumormongers seem convinced that a bunch of original Avengers won’t be in Avengers: Secret Wars.

I’m not sure Liu qualifies here, but one thing is clear about his comments.

Presuming he’s telling the truth, at least some Doomsday characters will appear in both films.

That’s 100 percent what I’d expected, but I’m apparently in the minority.

Finally, I should mention that Marvel’s Wolverine is now available on PS5.

While reviews of the game vary between mediocre and savage, it’s selling anyway.

By the time you read this, Wolverine will have crossed two million copies.

So, the hostile online buzz clearly isn’t negatively impacting its sales…yet.
