How Did Kingpin Get Such a Power-Up in ‘Hawkeye’?
One of the best reveals of the MCU in 2021 was Vincent D’Onofrio’s reprisal of his iconic portrayal of Wilson Fisk; this incarnation of the character, however, was very different, which lead us to question, how did Kingpin get such a power-up in Hawkeye?
Marvel’s most recent Disney+ series, Hawkeye, tells the incredible solo story of Clint Barton and his intended protege Kate Bishop.
As the two defend themselves from Bishop’s unintended circumstances of wearing the Ronin suit, the series takes MCU fans deeper into the underworld of the Marvel Universe; and forces Barton and Bishop to cross paths with one of the most revered villains.
Wilson Fisk was one of the iconic characters to come out of Daredevil; the premier series that came out of Marvel’s short-lived partnership with Netflix.
Brilliantly portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio, Fisk is the Al Capone of the MCU; acting as the head of the criminal underworld, and nearly ruling all of New York from the shadows.
When fans see Fisk in Daredevil, he is a wealthy, intimidating, and powerful man who sports legions of henchmen, and the money necessary to do whatever he wants.
This is not the Wilson Fisk we have met in Hawkeye.
There is a lack of wealth, and an obvious lack of power; two things that make sense in the context of the blip. With Thanos likely snapping Fisk out of existence, and thus in a situation where he needed to regain the power he once had.
Yet, there is something else about Fisk that is very different from his appearance on Daredevil; although the character was always among the strongest in the MCU, his appearance in Daredevil made him unbelievably so.
The question is, How did Kingpin get such a power-up in Hawkeye? Well, we think there may be a canonical answer hiding in a different Marvel Disney+ series.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier established that there is a lot happening around the MCU since the arrival of the Avengers that we haven’t seen; happenings that were magnified by the events of the blip caused by Thanos.
What if Wilson Fisk, with some of the remaining funds from his pre-blip state, got his hands on the same super-soldier serum that The Power Broker was selling on the black market?
That would explain how Fisk was able to take an arrow to the chest, get run over by a car, and be thrown from combustible highly explosive arrows that detonated directly under his feet, only to limp away to what is perceived to be his ultimate fate.
Fisk taking the super-soldier serum presents a dangerous Kingpin that would warrant the immense power-up he received in Hawkeye; and creates one of the Marvel Universe’s most powerful villains.
