In Memoriam: Deadpool’s #1 Crush, Betty White
In an article posted to TMZ, it was reported that the legendary actress Betty White is dead at the age of 99. According to the article, law enforcement sources contacted TMZ to inform them that the actress had been found dead just before 9:30 AM at her home earlier today, Friday, December 31st, 2021.
An Inspiration
White had a long and trailblazing career. She first appeared on television in 1939, and continued to star in one show after another over the subsequent eight decades. Her most famous role may be from The Golden Girls, a 1980s sitcom, in which she played the role of Rose Nylund.

However, of special note to Marvel Blog True Believers is the special role the actor plays for one of our favorite fictional characters, Deadpool. In the panels of Marvel Comics, the character has long been obsessed with another actress from Golden Girls, Bea Arthur, stretching back to his very first appearances in the early 1990s.

And that obsession with Golden Girls actors has continued throughout Deadpool’s super hero-ing career, right up to and including the two big-screen outings he’s enjoyed so far. In fact, not only did those movies include allusions to White, she was even part of the marketing campaign!

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds has enjoyed a special relationship with White, and he was meant to appear at her upcoming 100th birthday celebration.
