In April, Doctor Strange Will Face Nightmare & Mordo
In an article posted to the official Marvel website on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022, it was revealed that an upcoming series, Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares, will begin in April… and it will see Strange facing an enemy from his very first appearance: Nightmare (plus also, Baron Mordo)!
Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares
In Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares by Marvelous legend Ralph Macchio and Marvelous rising star Ibrahim Mostafa, with a cover by Todd Nauck, Strange finds himself facing off against two of his most notorious villains: Nightmare and Baron Mordo!
Now, you may be asking yourself: how can Strange be fighting supervillains when he’s all… you know… dead?
While it is true that late superheroes often have a habit of returning to life after spending a few years six feet under, that’s not the case here. Instead, this is a story that takes place in Doctor Strange’s past, just as the current Thing series takes place in a bygone era of the Fantastic Four.
Nightmare is literally Strange’s earliest antagonist, having first appeared in “Dr. Strange: Master of Black Magic,” a story in Strange Tales (1963) #110 by Steve Ditko, Stan Lee, and Terry Szenics.
And Mordo appeared soon after, in a story called “Face-to-Face with the Magic of Baron Mordo” by Ditko, Lee, and Szenics, which appeared in Strange Tales (1963) #111.
This isn’t the only time Mordo will be messing with the Marvel multiverse in 2022! In the panels of the Marvel Comics, he’ll be an antagonist in the August 2022 graphic novel Captain America: Ghost Army. And of course, he’ll also be appearing on-screen in the May 2022 movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
