REVIEW: Dark Order in Darth Vader #19
In Darth Vader #19, “Dark Order” by Greg Pak, Guiu Vilanova, Alex Sinclair, and Joe Caramagna, with a main cover by Ryan Stegman & Richard Isanove, we get a story that further explores the connective tissue between the idealistic Anakin Skywalker we saw in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and the horrifying force that is Darth Vader. Plus, we see Vader working with two of his best supporting characters: Valance and Ochi!
Darth Vader #19
This issue really earns its subtitle, “Dark Order,” by showing us just how the ideas that Anakin discussed in the prequel trilogies are brought to life through the Dark Side of the Force during his tenure as Darth Vader.
For this reason, I loved the way the flashbacks to Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace were included.
In addition to this, I liked the way two great supporting characters from the Star Wars Marvel Comics were included in Vader’s machinations: both Valance and Ochi continue to be among my personal favorite characters in the galaxy!
I also enjoyed the way the complicated nature of Vader’s relationship with the general public was explored, by showing how the Jedi-devoted “Revengers” who fight alongside Valance, Ochi, and Vader aren’t sure what to make of his laser sword, or the “Dark Order” his distributes to those who are loyal to Crimson Dawn.
This was another interesting issue that promises lots more conflict as the Crimson Reign crossover continues!
