Simu Liu Dishes on Shang-Chi 2
In an interview with Complex Canada, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu dished on online trolls, his 2022 New Year’s resolution (to take better care of his mental health), and what’s up next for the Marvelous super hero in the upcoming sequel, Shang-Chi 2!
Liu on 2022
First up, the interviewer asked Liu what he had been up to, and Liu mentioned a pair of appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and his appearance on Hot Ones (the latter of which will already be very familiar to the most devoted of Marvel Blog True Believers, and even earned a follow-up question from Alex Nino Gheciu the Complex Canada interviewer).
When the discussion turned to Shang-Chi 2, Liu admitted that, given how well Shang-Chi 1 performed at the box office in spite of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, he sort of knew that he would be returning for a sequel… but he was thrilled to discover that the director of the first movie, Destin Daniel Cretton, would be returning for the second movie (and hopefully delivering more adorable fantastic animals named after his childhood pets).
In addition, Gheciu made a joke about the possibility of filming the sequel in Canada… but judging by how hard other cities have worked to get a Marvel production to film at their location, maybe it wasn’t really all that much of a joke.
Finally, the interview included this fun fact: Liu is working with 88rising, who produced the outstanding soundtrack for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, on some music of his own.
Hey, Marvel Blog True Believers – that Marvelous musical I keep talking about? Maybe it isn’t as far fetched as it might seem!
We all have one question on all of our minds: will Morris be appearing in Shang-Chi 2? Liu didn’t mention the adorable animal in the interview, but we can’t imagine Cretton will be returning without bringing the Dijiang along for the ride. Fingers crossed, Marvel Blog True Believers!
