Destin Daniel Cretton Needs to Helm an ‘Iron Fist’ Series
One of the brightest stars of Marvel’s 2021 film slate was the visionary behind the acclaimed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and it is that success that points to why Destin Daniel Cretton needs to helm an Iron Fist series.
One of the dominant theatrical releases of Marvel’s 2021 return in cinemas was the clearly triumphant Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

A visually stunning and exceptionally well-crafted tale of a young man’s journey towards self-acceptance, Shang-Chi became one of the best debuts of 2021 and featured a character who clearly solidified his place in the MCU for the foreseeable future.
Yet, it was the architect of that incredible film who is also poised for a bright Marvel future.

Signing on to be a part of Disney, and the MCU, well into the future, the acclaimed director of Shang-Chi is a clear asset for the Studio that they have readily recognized.
With the rumors of the director helming a Disney+ project, we discuss why Destin Daniel Cretton needs to helm an Iron Fist series as his next MCU endeavor.

One of the most interesting characters in Marvel’s illustrious history, the mantle of Iron Fist preceeded Shang-Chi as the iconic vehicle for which Marvel comics explored martial arts in the Marvel universe.
Yet, what would make Cretton so perfect for the Iron First series is that he would be able to so clearly navigate the problematic “White Savior” aspects of the character, while still keeping firm with the Netflix version that should once again return to the MCU canon; as seen in the various Netflix returns in Phase Four.

Rumors did stir of Cretton’s Disney+ series focusing on Shang-Chi character Xialing, with Kevin Feige seeming to refute them in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
The Marvel head stated, with a laugh, “I can’t wait for people to discover what it really is that we are working on for Disney+ with Destin.”

We are hoping for a brand new take on the iconic Iron Fist.
Following the source material, Marvel could bring back Finn Jones as Danny Rand, following the comic book storyline in which the mantle is passed down to a brand new Iron Fist of Asian descent.

Cretton has already proven to have a fantastic grasp on the ways in which to honor the Asian community, and Eastern culture, in his fantastic Shang-Chi, a film that celebrated Eastern cinema.
This could be yet another medium for Certton to continue honoring that culture, and doing so by reversing Rand’s place as Iron Fist, and replacing him with a Chinese actor more accurately representing the home of Iron Fist, K’un Lun.

Destin Daniel Cretton needs to helm an Iron Fist series, and embracing a new Asian inheritor to the mantle would allow Finn Jones Danny Rand to exist in the current incarnation of the MCU, while still giving way to a brand new Marvel Legend.
