Bruce Campbell Gets DM from “Sam Raimi”
In a Tweet sent on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022, Groovy Bruce Campbell sent a Tweet that included an image of a direct message from someone who was posing as Spider-Man (2002) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) director Sam Raimi… but we have a sneaking suspicion that this might not have been the actual Raimi, Marvel Blog True Believers!

It’s clear from the Tweet sent by Campbell that he isn’t buying that this is the real Raimi… and no wonder! Here’s what the DM says (with the original typos intact):
“Hi there it’s Sam Raimi the director here. I am trying to make spiderman 4 with the doctor strange budget but Kevin Fiegey has caught on and pulled the funding. Can you send me 1500 in iTunes gift card codes so I can hire Tony Maguire thanks.”

Wow! Not only did this scammer misspell the name of Marvel Studios Head-Boss-in-Charge Kevin Feige, he also sort of completely missed Tobey Maguire’s name, which Campbell noted in the response he Tweeted alongside the photo:
“”Boy, that Sam – always hitting people up for money. I will chip in, because I love Tony Maguire.”

This is yet another reminder that not everyone on the internet can be taken on face value, Marvel Blog True Believers, and that some people may misrepresent themselves for their own gain (including their own gain through iTunes gift card codes, which can not be used in order to fund a movie – trust us on this one)!
But one word of advice to scammers: if you are going to lie about a movie, maybe don’t lie to someone who literally appeared in the film.

While the ersatz Raimi may be claiming to be raising money for Spider-Man 4, the real Raimi is hard at work putting the finishing touches on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before its release in May 2022. But hey… maybe we’ll get Tony Maguire’s Spider-Man sequel eventually!
