‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Writers Talk Why Iron Man Isn’t Coming Back Anytime Soon
With the source of many rumors predicting the return of one of the MCU’s most iconic characters, Spider-Man: No Way Home writers talk about why Iron Man isn’t coming back anytime soon.
Marvel’s Phase Four has continued exploring the continually more unstable multiverse, and Spider-Man: No Way Home was the pinnacle of that exploration.
The latest installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man saga saw the return of some of the most iconic appearances of the character’s 20-year history on film.
From Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s returns as multiversal Peter Parkers to Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina’s return as Green Goblin and Doc Ock.
Yet, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness just on the horizon, and promising to dive deeper into the unfathomable and unpredictable multiverse, MCU fans are unsure of what to expect.
Rumors have run amok and reports from every corner of the fandom have insisted that the Doctor Strange sequel film will not only explore Marvel characters from film history past but also alternate reality versions of some of the MCU’s most beloved characters.
With some of these rumors pointing toward an alternate reality version of the beloved Tony STar, Spider-Man: No WAy Home writers talk about why Iron Man isn’t coming back anytime soon.
In a recent interview with The Q&A With Jeff Goldsmith Podcast, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers talked about Iron Man being a “Non-starter” for Marvel.
They stated, “I think honestly that’s a non-starter in the halls of Marvel, at least in our experience. They just don’t really like constantly evoking [Iron Man].”
“I mean, obviously Tony cast such a large shadow even after Endgame– which we dealt with in Far From Home- but I think everyone felt like we can’t just keep on going to the Tony well.”
It is expected for MArvel to be protective of Tony Starks emotional goodbye at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame and the character is rightfully kept from being utilized by writers of future films; this should assure fans to take any Iron Man rumors for the Doctor Strange Sequel with a grain of salt.
