From the 2000s Sam Raimi-led Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films, to the Marc Webb helmed Andrew Garfield version of the character, to the current MCU incarnation helmed by Jon Watts and starring the incredible Tom Holland; Sony has firmly established their commitment to the wall-crawling hero.
With Venom, the studio worked on expanding the Spider-Man universe of characters that they own into their very own shared cinematic universe inspired by the many adventures of Spider-Man and his vast rogue’s gallery.

The aforementioned Venom was the first domino to fall for this shared universe and saw Tom Hardy bring to life the character of Eddie Brock; a journalist who shares consciousness with the classic Symbiote that opposed Spider-Man.
With Jared Leto’s Morbius soon approaching despite its recent delay, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Karven The Hunter set to begin filming soon, it appears as though Sony has continued their development of the shared universe by starting production on a Madame Web solo film.

It was reported that the film may have found its star in Fifty Shades of Grey standout Dakota Johnson; something that the actress has reportedly confirmed on Instagram.
The actress posted to her Instagram story a cryptic web emoji amidst an all-black background; something that is most likely a nod to the character she is set to play in this growing Spider-Man universe.
