Farewell to ‘This’ Guardians of The Galaxy Team
Filming for Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 has been well underway after filming started at the end of last year. We know of a few familiar faces returning and that the movie will likely be centered around Rocket Raccoon.
However, some potentially regretful news has been revealed. On Deadline’s Hero, Nation Podcast Gunn stated that
“This is the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians.”
While not a definitive answer on whether the Guardians of the Galaxy will return, one thing is for sure The cobbled-together team of quirky personalities that audiences have come to know and love from the first two films will be no more.
There is the potential for the death of a character, the splitting up of the team, or any other number of possibilities. Gunn’s wordplay by stating “This team of Guardians” also gives a great deal of rise to the possibility of new members joining.
Guardians of The Galaxy first debuted in 2014, a lesser-known Marvel team property in comparison to titans such as Spider-man, The Hulk, or X-Men. The Guardians were Marvel Studios’ first foray into taking a relatively unknown entity and placing them on the big screen.
The results were absolutely phenomenal! An amalgam of various character personalities, classic 70s hits, and superb acting hooked audiences and reeled them all the way in. Guardians won several accolades in the following award season, was the highest-grossing superhero film of 2014, and the third highest-grossing MCU film at the time of its release.
Guardians of the Galaxy of Vol. 2 continued the success of the first film, surpassing the gross sales of the first film, and once again earning various accolades. Additions to the cast in the form of Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, and Kurt Russell joining to play Star-Lord’s villainous father, allowed for another whirlwind space adventure.
The Guardians would go on to star in the climactic showdowns with Thanos, teaming up with the Avengers, in the films Infinity War and Endgame. Cementing their status as beloved characters and becoming an instrumental pillar within the MCU.
With Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 on the horizon, many fans will have to accept the sobering truth that this will be the last time we see this select band of misfits together.
Whatever Direction James Gunn decides to take this team, we will always fondly remember the team that made us fall in love with this MCU classic.
