This the Villain Origin Story Wanda Deserves
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the highly anticipated next installment of the MCUs lauded Phase Four, and we discuss why it is also the villain origin story that Wanda deserves.
Never before has the MCU been so ambitious and creative than in the current endeavor that is Phase Four.
Featuring the exploration of the delicate and deteriorating multiverse, there is a sense within the promotional campaign for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that nothing is precious, and there will be a genesis that takes place when Phase Four is completed.
Starting with Loki and WandaVision, only to continue throughout the memorable and brutal event of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the idea of alternate realities and conjoining universes is something that has brought with it limitless possibilities, and endless theorization.
Yet, for all of the rumors, assumptions, and guesses that have come with the footage we have seen from the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, one thing remains perfectly clear.
This is the villain origin story that Wanda deserves.
The MCU has never crafted a character so defined by tragedy, pain, and loss as Wanda MAximoff; since her first appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the incredibly powerful superhero has experienced small moments of happiness and victory, only to be separated by moments of tremendous tragedy.
Wanda Maximoff is a character who has loved only to have lost; with both her brother- and her only connection to a childhood stolen from her- and her partner in Vision whose death was an irreversible reality due to the actions of Thanos.
When everyone else has found a way to regain what was taken from them, Wanda stands as unable to reclaim anything.
A character-driven to become the Scarlett Witch, robbed of her ability to mourn and grieve a family she was never supposed to have; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the day of reckoning so long teased for the MCU.
A character with such depth, and such profound crafting, is finally getting the moment where she becomes the product of her pain.
Although Wanda will likely be the main antagonist of the upcoming Doctor strange sequel, she will no doubt have her supporters; and the greatness of her villain origin story, is the dilemma placed on the audience; to stand behind a character doing such tremendous wrongs, no matter how justified.
For all of the cameos and massive implications for the greater MCU that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will have; the beating heart of the story will like in Wanda finally getting her moment.
Embracing Scarlett Witch, in what will undoubtedly be the villain origin story she deserves.
