‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Surpasses ‘Avatar’ To Become Third Highest Grossing Domestic Film of All Time
The record-breaking accomplishments don’t seem to be stopping any time soon as the reign of Spider-Man: No Way Home continues, with it recently being crowded the third-highest-grossing domestic film of all time.
What has been the crown jewel of the entire Phase Four slate for Marvel, Spider-Man: No Way Home has erupted into what is easily the most successful film of the past two years.
Chronicling the tragic and brutal story of the MCU’s Peter Parker, the film has seen three generations of Spider-Man command the screen and face off again some of the character’s most iconic villains of his 20-year history on the big screen.
The Sony and Marvel collaborated film entered cinemas with the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic still a very present factor many assumed would impede the success of the film’s box office run.
The Jon Watts-helmed film is the third of the character’s franchise and sets him into uncharted territory, and reconstructed what is one of the most comic accurate portrayals of the character; combined with the Tom Hollands performance in the title role perhaps the greatest incarnation of Peter Parker we’ve seen.
Against all odds, and with no film even close to reaching the domestic box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it has now surpassed the beloved Avatar as the third highest-grossing domestic box office film of all time.
