How ‘WandaVision’ Established The Greatest Villain of ‘Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness’
With all of the unknowns surrounding the latest MCU project, one thing is for certain; WandaVision has already established who is set to be the greatest villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
There has not been an MCU film that boasts the level of uncertainty, unpredictability, or limitless potential as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The idea of the multiverse, and alternate realities, is something that has originated in Loki and played a major part in the establishment and continuation of the MCUs lauded Phase Four.
Spider-Man: No Way Home utilized the idea to completely reverse engineer a brand new take on the character of Spider-Man; literally stripping him of all that made him Peter Parker, and leaving only the hero in its place.
There is no doubt that the Multiverse will play a major role in this sequel to 2016s Doctor Strange, and with the Illuminati rumored to appear in the film, it will likely be constructed around multiversal versions of beloved Marvel characters coming together to protect the totality of the Marvel universe.
Yet, with rumors of villains like Nightmare or Supreme Strange appearing as the antagonist of the film, many have overlooked who will be the biggest threat to the protection of that galaxy, a threat that Marvel has already established.
WandaVision was a character study into the heart of the grieving; it dissected what would happen if a character that lost everything, had unlimited power, and the repercussions of that.
And it is in that dissection of character that WandaVision established the greatest villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in its final frame.
Wanda is the most powerful Marvel character currently, and she has continually grown in power during her arc in the MCU, but it isn’t Wanda in which the greatest threat to the Multiverse exists, it is in the power she is attempting to harness.
The final frame of WandaVision showed the now fully realized Scarlett Witch consuming the knowledge of the Dardkhold, and it is down this path that the greatest villain of the film is revealed.
The Darkhold, and its scribe Chthon, seek only to manipulate and control those who seek the content of the dangerous book; and in Wanda, they have found the vessel capable of destroying the entire multiverse as we know it.
The greatest villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness isn’t simply Wanda; it’s a Wanda dangerously corrupted by the Chaos magic inside of the Darkhold.
