MarvelBlog News for March 28th, 2022
We’ll skip standard conventions in this week’s MarvelBlog News update for March 28th. We don’t have one big story per se, but we have several worthy of discussion.
Let’s get started.
The Multiverse of Madness Update
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness debuts in theaters on May 6th. That’s only five weeks from now.
As such, the news is starting to drop about the project and its various aspects. For instance, an unlikely source revealed that the film is 148 minutes long.
Another suggested that you should mark April 6th on your calendar. On this date, movie presales sites like Fandango will start selling tickets for this sequel.
As a reminder, Spider-Man: No Way Home should have crossed $800 million domestically by the time you read this and $1.9 billion worldwide.
What I’m politely saying is that you’ll want to book tickets for that date. Otherwise, you risk getting shut out on the opening weekend.
I recently had horrible seats for The Batman, and I can confirm that it did negatively impact my enjoyment of my project. So don’t be a moron like me!
By the way, here’s an (admittedly pointless) image of America Chavez in action in the film:

They’ve really nailed the look of the comic book character.
The Nova Update
Last week, I referenced a Production Weekly update that included a Marvel story entitled Untitled Marvel Space Project.
I speculated at the time that it was Nova, and the only reason I wasn’t sure is that Marvel could be doing multiple outer space projects.
For at least a year, I’ve known that Nova was coming to the MCU. Now, Deadline has confirmed this fact.
Sabir Pirzada, one of the writers on Moon Knight, has taken charge of this project.
Disney has played coy about whether Nova will appear in a movie or television series. But, in truth, it’ll be both.
The character of Richard Ryder is a New York high school student who somehow finds himself fighting for the elite intergalactic team known as Nova Corps.
In other words, it’s a Marvel knockoff of the Green Lantern Corps. The difference here is that the Green Lantern movie was an absolute abomination.
Nova will be great because all Marvel stories are various levels of great…except Thor: The Dark World and, arguably, Eternals.
Marvel will have several opportunities to introduce the character in upcoming projects.
Nova would seem right at home in The Marvels, Secret Invasion, or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
As a member of the Nova Corps, Ryder has fought the Skrulls a lot. Since they’ll play an integral part in the next few years of Marvel storytelling, it’s the perfect time to add Nova.
By the way, I should add that there’s another Nova now, Sam Alexander. So Marvel may handle this like Ant-Man with a grizzled vet mentoring a rising superhero.
The Moon Knight Update
The review embargo has ended for Moon Knight, which debuts on Wednesday on Disney+.
I won’t spoil anything for you, but I HAVE to tell you that one critic suggested that it’s like Peter Sellers joining the MCU.
For that reason alone, you must watch it. But, also, give Being There a chance someday.
Anyway, Marvel has ramped up the advertising for Moon Knight. Here’s an absolutely charming clip entitled Waiting Room:

Before that, we had actual footage called Protect:
And here’s another clip called Skills:
I suspect we may need all six episodes before fully understanding what’s happening in this series.
The Quantumania Update
We also just learned somewhat frustrating but unsurprising news about Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania.
Actor David Dastmalchian, who plays Kurt Goreshter, the Baba Yaga guy, won’t return for the third film.
Dastmalchian confirmed this while standing on the red carpet for the Moon Knight premiere. However, he sounded bummed about it and remains hopeful that Marvel will call soon.
However, Dastmalchian sounds like he knows any future Marvel appearance won’t be in the Ant-Man and The Wasp franchise.
As a reminder, Kurt is one of Scott Lang’s three friends and co-workers at X-Con Security Consultants.
One of the other actors in that group, musician T.I., has faced some harrowing allegations about his personal life and conduct.
The rapper stands accused of kidnapping, sexual abuse, and forced narcotics ingestion, among other things.
So, when the project was announced, I speculated that X-Con Security Consultants may not return.
Apparently, Marvel has chosen to bring back Michael Pena’s Luis, inarguably the funniest cast member, but not T.I. or Dastmalchian.
This decision also cleans up some lingering awkwardness. You may recall that Evangeline Lilly was trending for all the wrong reasons in January.
The Wasp actress took a vaccine stance that isn’t very popular. So, other MCU performers like Simu Liu and Dastmalchian spoke out against her.
Simu Liu works on a different Marvel franchise. So, Marvel can work around that. It’d be uncomfortable for co-stars to butt heads repeatedly during filming, though.
Dastmalchian has suffered here due to the actions of others rather than himself, which is regrettable.
Still, we’ll always have this until he returns to the MCU:
Marvel Miscellany
I don’t necessarily trust the word of James Gunn these days. After all, he thought The Suicide Squad was going to be good. I saw it; he was wrong.
Still, the MCU director claims that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is the “greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
That sounds more like something one of his critics would say in a subtle dig, but here we are.
Anyway, you can decide for yourself this December. I guarantee it’ll be better than The Suicide Squad.
Also, Gunn stated that new MCU characters will appear in the holiday special. Maybe that’s where Nova debuts?

In MCU-adjacent news, we have confirmation that Venom and Morbius live in the same universe. Here it is:

CinemaBlend asks a good follow-up question here. Which Peter Parker is in this universe?
After all, the MCU one can’t be in two places at once. You hadn’t really thought about that, had you? That’s all for MarvelBlog News for March 28th, have a fantastic week Marvel Fans!
