Why Jason Aaron’s ‘Avengers Forever’ Is One of Our Favorite Comics of 2022
The series has officially released its first issue on Marvel Unlimited, opening it up to brand new audiences, which led us to explain why Jason Aarons Avengers Forever is one of our favorite comics of 2022 so far
We all understand the vast multiversal playgrounds that the world of comics can become; with every character that has ever been created living the door open to countless reinterpretations by countless authors that make the possibilities endless for how that said character can be explored.
Within this functioning, the multiverse is both creative freedoms for writers, yet there is also the propensity for a lot of things to be overdone, to get stale, or just to fall flat in execution.
In short, the multiversal presence in the world of comic books is both a blessing and a curse; and it all depends on just how those interpretations from those various authors connect with you.
For Marvel, and for the recent Avengers Forever run of the past year, the multiverse is the greatest of blessings as Jason Aarons Avengers Forever has easily become one of our favorite comics of 2022 so far
The December debut of Aaron’s strange Avengers team felt like the best of the multiverse, with the characters being rediscovered in ways that both honor the original conception of that character, while also taking a new way of approaching them.
Avengers Forever is a geyser for which Aarons’s creativity is constantly spewing; In everything from the fantastic Anthony Stark who is this Earths Ant-Man, to the War Machine robots seeking to continue the desolation of the Wasteland, to the various Avengers that make up this Earths Mightiest Losers team.
Even in the presentation of Marvel mainstays like Robbie Reyes and Deathlok is there a feeling of newness, as the characters bring to life the scale of the great dystopia that is present; with the character opening the first issue with a tremendously mapped and executed action sequence.
But perhaps where Aaron’s great conceptualizing shines brightest is in the main vehicle for the audience: Anthony Stark.
Leaning into Tony Starks greatest flaws, and his most distinctive assets, Anthony Stark is a barely functioning alcoholic who is a brilliant archeologist, and an even more affluent inventory.
Aarons tests the Marvel landscape to keep anything away from the brilliant mind of Stark, as he uses everything from Stark particles to the head of a celestial, to improve on his arsenal of weaponry prepared to help defend what is left of the planet from the Black Skull.
As this series debuts on Marvel Unlimited, we cannot recommend this series enough, as Jason Aaron’s Avengers Forever is a fun ride, that will take every reader on a fantastic adventure into the depths of the Marvel Universe in ways they had yet to experience.
