‘Black Widow’ Actor Leaves Door Open for MCU Return
One of the stars of one of the MCU’s earlier Phase Four entries, a Black Widow actor leaves the door open for an eventual MCU return.
There are few MCU films that have been as overlooked as the incredible Black Widow; the first solo film to solely focus on one of the Original six Avengers: Natasha Romanoff.
A key character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe lore, Natasha was one of the most important characters in the decade-plus long history of the film franchises.
Despite the controversy that surrounded the collaborative relationship between Scarlett Johansson and Marvel Studios- magnified because of the horrendous reality of the COVID-19 pandemic- the duo developed and released Marvel’s first film following a year-long hiatus.
What followed was a story that was carefully crafted to truly explore who Natasha is, who she was, and who she developed into, with the tragedy of her character’s demise in Avengers: Endgame hanging firmly in the backdrop of this story.
What many have questioned about the one-shot nature of the film is if any characters would be able to find a consistent role in the ever-evolving MCU; with only Florence Pugh’s Yelena able to debut since the Black Widow’s release.
It seems as though another Black Widow actor is leaving the door open to an MCU return, as they may have reason to believe that the Marvel Universe isn’t finished with them yet.
O-T Fagbenle played the character of Rick Mason in the film- a secret agent who aids Natasha in her exploits throughout the film- and may find his way back in future projects.
Speaking to /Film, Fagbenle stated, “With Marvel, I’m never sure how much they can say about stuff, but ill just say that it wasn’t a one-and-done conversation.”
What the actor is referring to is the assumption that his role as Rick Mason was for a single film; it would make sense for Marvel to find a role for Mason in future projects, as the character is rather interesting and incredibly helpful.
