Jake Gyllenhaal Talks How ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Changed Acting for Him
One of the most interesting additions to the MCU’s vast rogues gallery of villains, veteran actor Jake Gyllenhaal talks about how Spider-Man: Far From Home changed acting for him.
There are few characters in the history of pop culture that can boast as big of an impact as Spider-Man, as the iconic hero is quite possibly the greatest creation in the history of the comic book medium.
The character’s transition to the big screen, following his various live-action adaptations from Sony Pictures, came to a turning point after his debut in the MCU in 2016.
The Spider-Man saga at the MCU presented a much younger, and undeniably brilliant, student who get the opportunity to learn behind the original hero, and one of the smartest heroes in the entire Marvel Universe, Tony Stark.
It was the second film that debut a fantastic villain in the form of Mysterio, and a storyline that placed Peter against some of the great unknowns after the death of Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame.
The man behind the fishbowl mask, Jake Gyllenhaal, recently spoke on how Spider-Man: Far From Home, changed his acting to him.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Gyllenhaal spoke on the revelatory experience, and how the most unlikely project had perhaps the most profound impact on the long-time actor.
Gyllenhaal stated, “What was interesting, when I went into Spider-Man: Far From Home… I think I was taking myself too seriously. In fact, I’m sure of it. I think I really lost that sense of play and fun that I am”
The veteran actor continued, “That sort of, that class clown that I talk about that found that idea of just popping a shoulder and making a funny face. It was such a cathartic thing to be able to throw away all that seriousness and really became the actor that I think I’ve always wanted to be in a lot of ways.”
Gyllenhaal concluded by stating, “It’s all about the experience that you have with the people yore making that film with. And, I think that we go through journeys in our life where we’re finding ourselves and in, in the case of Spider-Man, I think I realized, ‘Hey, you know, acting is really fun. You know? Enjoy it!'”
It is awesome o hear that Gyllenhaal refound his love for the craft through a film that he was exceptional in, and has gone on to be a pinnacle installment of the character’s franchise.
