James Gunn Asked for Changes to the Guardians in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
The mastermind behind the incredibly successful Marvel franchise was apparently involved in the depiction of the team he helped create, as James Gunn asked for changes to the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder.
There are few films that have embraced as much mystery and unknown as the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.
Although the film was announced over three years ago, fans just got their first trailer only 80 days before the film is set to arrive in theaters, with so few confirmed details of what fans can expect in the fourth installment of the MCUs Thor saga.
One of the most interesting aspects of the film is how it would implement the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy, as the Seminole Avengers: Endgame ended with Thor joining the team on their unknown escapades throughout the far reaches of the galaxy.
The first trailer showed a bit of this relationship on display and promised that the iconic bounty hunting space team would have a place in the sequel film, which leads some to question how much agency Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi had on the portrayal of these iconic characters.
In a recent Twitter exchange, it was confirmed by the man himself that James Gunn asked for changes to the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder; a request that he states, was ultimately accepted.

The fan specifically asked about the level of influence Gunn had on the script for Thor: Love and Thunder, or if the Waititi was free to use the characters as he so felt appropriate.
In response, Gunn stated, “I asked for some things to be adjusted and they were adjusted.” Confirming that he did have a hand in shaping the Guardians that we’ll see in the summer blockbuster.
It isn’t a massive surprise that Gunn was able to have a say in the portrayals of the characters, as he is currently crafting the conclusion to the team’s MCU arc in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and likely required certain things to be maintained for continuity purposes.
Regardless, it builds our excitement, even more, knowing that the Guardian we’ll get in Thor: Love and Thunder are crafted by both the phenomenal directors.
