‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II’ Gets a New Name
In the recent Sony panel at CinemaCon, it was announced that the film following the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part I would get a brand new name.
Few Marvel adaptations have stood the test of time as well as the iconic animated classic, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The film explored the character of Miles Morales, and his origin story from charismatic, young, New York teenager, to the eventual heir apparent to the Spider-Man mantle.
Arriving in theaters in 2018, the film is still among the best Spider-Man film ever made, with ambition and creativity on par with its unprecedented commitment to exploring just what it means to embrace the mantle of Spider-Man for a new generation.
The long-awaited sequel film was previously announced as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part I, and indicated to many fans that it would be the second installment of a trilogy, with the third and final film capping the series off with a part 2 title.
The most recent Sony panel at CinemaCon, however, has changed this, as the assumed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II gets a brand new name.
First reported by ComicBook.com, it has been confirmed by producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller that the film will actually be titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
The series will see the return of the two big stars from the original Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film, with Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld reprising their roles as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy respectively.
The film has also confirmed that Jake Johnson will be coming back as Peter B. Parker, alongside the brand new additions to the cast in the form of Marvel stand-out Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara’s Spider-Man 2099, and Issa Rae as Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman.
We still don’t quite know what to expect out of the long-awaited sequel, but we do know that it will be a massive undertaking that will significantly grow the lore of the Spider-Verse film franchise; with the creative team aiming to break ground and craft something truly special and unique.
